shopatseed is me Gabrielle Smith and I design and create hand built functional ceramics in my tiny home-studio in Ashdon, Essex. I have a passion for pared down organic shapes, and my goal is always to create pieces that are a pleasure to look at and to use.
I make my own glazes and I work with a palette of shades and a range of finishes which allow the underlying clay body to be visible and very much part of the finished piece. I use these glazes to drip dip and splash over my work. The finished objects are individual, tactile and highly useable.
My work is strongly influenced by my love of food and a constant striving to create ‘the perfect dish for a chickpea salad’ or ‘a raised plate to szuzsh-up a Victoria sponge’. Each piece - bowl, mug, plate or vessel - is completely individual with its own imperfections and variances. My work is designed for everyday use and is normally dishwasher, oven and microwave safe.
I often work to commission - whether that’s for a single item or a whole dinner service - and am very happy to discuss individual requirements over email or phone, or in person.
